Taipei Medical University (TMU), established in 1960, is home to 11 colleges, one general education center, and over 6,000 students, with more than 49,000 alumni around the world. TMU boasts of six affiliated hospitals, including TMU Hospital, Taipei Municipal Wanfang Hospital, Shuang Ho Hospital, Taipei Cancer Center, Taipei Neuroscience Institute, and Hsin Kuo Min Hospital. Together, the hospitals host a total of 3,000 beds and over 9,000 faculty and staff members.

Our mission at TMU is to educate biomedical talents with humanity, innovation, and global vision. We strive to develop a comprehensive education system that integrates teaching, research, industrial collaboration, and medical care.

In recent years, we have demonstrated great achievements in education, research, medical service and innovative R&D in the biotechnology industry. Our efforts have won growing recognitions at home and abroad. In 2022, TMU was ranked 231st in the Times Higher Education (THE) World University Rankings, 2nd among universities in Taiwan. In Asia, TMU is ranked 29th in the THE Asia University Rankings.

In the Essential Science Indicators (ESI) 2022, TMU made great progress with a total of 10 categories ranked among the top 1%. Newly listed categories are Immunology, Chemistry & Psychiatry and Psychology,in addition to our consistently high-performing seven areas including Clinical Medicine, Pharmacology and Toxicology, Neuroscience and Behavior, Biology and Biochemistry, General Social Sciences, Molecular Biology and Genetics, and Agricultural Sciences.

In Taiwan, TMU has been named the number one among medical universities and private universities in the 2021 university ranking published by Global Vision Magazine, for four consecutive years. In addition, we are ranked the 4th university with highest growth performance in a survey published by Cheers Magazine in 2022. The achievement highlights TMU’s efforts on becoming a world’s leading university.

In the 2022 Impact Rankings of THE, TMU is among top 200 higher education institutions, and ranked number three in the “SDG3-Good Health and Wellbeing” category in the world. In the era of globalization and rapid social changes, TMU fully supports the United Nation’s Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) and have made SDGs part of our operational guidelines.

At TMU, our goal is “take medical education as the foundation, develop biomedicine for clinical use and become a university of innovation with social impacts.” We focus on problem-solving capabilities in education and research, pursue innovative R&D achievements and entrepreneurial spirits, and adapt quickly to changes to obtain necessary resources, so that we can bring about positive changes and be a driving force behind social and economic developments in Taiwan.

With “educate for the future” as the purpose, we aim to develop our students as well-rounded biomedical talents. In the meantime, we prioritize special research areas and encourage turning academic research into business opportunities. The university has established 22 start-ups with capitals over TWD $1.51 billion. Among them, “3D Global Biotech” has completed the Emerging Stock Market registration.

Moving forward, the launch of “Shuang Ho Base B” has further integrated the nation’s !rst university biomedical acceleration program to build the base as a trinity biomedical park with a university, hospital and biomedical industry. In addition to developing biomed talents and focusing on precision health research, the biomed park will also serve as a major base for developing top translational medicine research and facilitating biomedical industry collaboration and incubation.

In response to an ever-changing future, TMU has penned the “TMU 2030 White Paper: A Ten-year Vision” with six key strategies: cultivate interdisciplinary biomedical talents, develop world-leading research areas, extend international influence, build innovative and entrepreneurial ecosystem, enhance efficiency and effectiveness of the administrative system, and strengthen the medical-industry chain. With practical planning and steady steps, TMU and its six affiliated hospitals will work closely to make contribute to the advancement of sciences and healthcare, making positive social impact on our communities and the society.
