On January 16, 2024, the delegation from Taipei Medical University (TMU) commenced their visit to the University of Oxford, starting from a compelling exploration of Oxford Science Enterprises (OSE). Dr. Jowy Tani, CEO of Taipei Medical University Biomedical Accelerator, presented TMU's innovative startup initiatives, and the delegation received an overview of OSE's activities. While OSE focuses on Oxford-affiliated companies, they expressed a willingness to facilitate connections between the TMU BioAccelerator and Oxford PIs for potential collaboration, considering Taiwan a key entry point to the Asian market.

Prof. Lionel Tarassenko, Pro Vice-Chancellor of Oxford University and Dean of Reuben College, hosted a banquet for the delegation. Reuben College, established in 2018 and renamed in 2020, exclusively admits graduate students, emphasizing innovation and entrepreneurship education. Discussions during the luncheon between Prof. Jiunn-Horng Kang, Dean of TMU College of Biomedical Engineering, and Prof. Tarassenko centered on biomedical engineering research and education, with plans for future research exchanges and cooperation.

In the afternoon, the TMU delegation had separate meetings with Prof. Zhanfeng Cui to discuss student exchange matters and with Prof. Villarroel to explore collaboration opportunities in sleep medicine research. The delegation hopes to jointly apply for national grants in Taiwan or the UK.

To strengthen the connections with local communities in Oxford, TMU hosted an evening banquet for young Taiwanese talents in Oxford and London's innovation sector, focusing on the development of biomedical industries and the potential for Taiwan-UK cooperation.
