Taipei Medical University’s 2024 Fall New Student Welcome Events

Taipei Medical University’s Office of Global Engagement (OGE) recently hosted a comprehensive New Student Welcome Event series, designed to introduce international students to TMU’s academic culture and Taiwanese heritage. Highlights included academic workshops led by TMU lecturers, alongside immersive cultural experiences like a visit to the Kuo Yuan-yi Cake Museum and an excursion to Maokong’s scenic tea plantations.
 

This year’s events were crafted to help students adapt to TMU’s academic culture more smoothly through tailored workshops on university life, academic expectations, and research methodologies. The sessions, led by experienced TMU faculty, offered students valuable insights into how to thrive in their academic pursuits and navigate the unique aspects of TMU’s educational environment.

The cultural experiences provided an additional dimension, allowing students to connect with Taiwan’s local traditions. At the Kuo Yuan-yi Cake Museum, participants enjoyed a hands-on introduction to traditional Taiwanese pastries and learned about the rich history of cake-making in Taiwan. The Maokong tea plantation visit offered a relaxing gondola ride with breathtaking views, followed by a tour of the tea fields and a tasting session that introduced students to Taiwan’s famous tea culture.

Feedback from participants underscored the value of these experiences, with students expressing gratitude for the chance to learn about both academic life and local culture. One student commented, “The fact that TMU and the OGE office organized such a cultural exchange program is truly wonderful. I hope that more programs like this will be available for future students.” Many students also expressed interest in additional cultural events and support from senior students in future activities.
